Team Amputee Support Group: Flower Arranging

Touchstone Rehabilitation is happy to share an upcoming gathering of the Team Amputee Support Group, hosted by Encompass Health Valley of the Sun Rehabilitation Hospital in Glendale. This month, the group is getting creative with an evening of flower arranging on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

Support groups give people living with limb loss a place to connect, share experiences and encourage one another. A hands-on activity makes it easy to jump in, whether this is your first meeting or you are a regular. Vases are provided, but if you have an extra one at home, feel free to bring it along. You and a guest are both invited.

Why Peer Support Matters After Limb Loss

Recovery after an amputation is about much more than healing and learning to use a prosthesis. Many people also work through changes in routine, confidence and independence, and those adjustments can feel isolating without the right support around you.

Spending time with others who have been through a similar experience can make a real difference. Group members can trade practical tips about everyday life, talk openly about the challenges they face and celebrate progress together. For family members and caregivers, these gatherings are also a chance to learn from others and feel less alone.

What to Expect at Flower Arranging Night

This month's meeting puts the focus on a relaxed, creative project. Arranging flowers is a calm activity that encourages conversation, and it lets everyone take part at their own pace. There is no experience needed, and the goal is simply to enjoy the evening and connect with others.

Working with your hands can also be a gentle way to practice fine motor skills and coordination in a low-pressure setting. At the end of the night, you will have an arrangement to take home and, hopefully, a few new friends.

The Benefits of Creative Activities in Recovery

Creative, hands-on projects are a natural fit for support group meetings. When everyone is focused on a shared task, conversation tends to flow more easily, and newer members can join in without feeling put on the spot.

Activities like flower arranging also offer a chance to slow down and enjoy something just for fun. Recovery can involve a lot of appointments, exercises and goals, so an evening that is simply relaxing and social can be a welcome change of pace.

Support for Family Members and Caregivers

Limb loss affects the whole family. Spouses, children, friends and caregivers often play a big role in day-to-day life after an amputation, and they can benefit from connection and encouragement too. Because each attendee may bring a guest, this meeting is a great opportunity for loved ones to meet others in similar situations, ask questions and learn more about the support available in the community.

Who Should Attend

The Team Amputee Support Group welcomes people living with limb loss at any stage, from those who are recently adjusting to life after an amputation to those who have been living with limb loss for many years. Each attendee is welcome to bring a guest, such as a spouse, family member, friend or caregiver.

Tips for Your First Meeting

If you have never been to a support group before, it is completely normal to feel a little unsure. Here are a few simple tips to help you feel at ease:

Arrive a few minutes early. This gives you time to find the room, settle in and say hello before the activity begins.

Bring a guest. Having a familiar face by your side can make a first visit feel much easier.

Share at your own pace. You are welcome to talk as much or as little as you like. Many people simply listen during their first visit.

Ask questions. Group members are often happy to share what has worked for them, from prosthetic care to managing daily routines.
